LIVESTRONG

We've gone Yellow for LIVESTRONG day!

Last year on LIVESTRONG day, I said that my dad had a soft tissue sarcoma in his leg and that the chemo might be working. Well, the chemo and radiation didn't do a lot really. The sarcoma did not shrink. But the radiation did toughen up the edges of the thing and the arteries and nerves it was wrapped around so when the doctor went in to cut it out, she was able to strip everything off the arteries and nerves. That means he did not need any transplanted arteries from his other leg, and he did not lose any feeling by losing a nerve. AND they got the whole freaking thing!
That's right, as of today, my dad is cancer free! Sir Moose-a-lot Roadkill Goodyear Thunderbottom's nap buddy is doing great! And we are all so thankful!

Another person I honored last year was my friend Vickie who had seemed to have won her battle.
A few months ago she had a goiter that kept getting larger. They took a biopsy not long ago and found cancer. Devastating news to be sure. But when she went in to see when her surgery would be, they told her that the biopsy had been a large one, 30% of the goiter, and they found clean margins, they got all the cancer! She will still have the rest of the goiter removed, but she doesn't even need chemo!

I wish all stories of the nasty C would end like these.. but as we've seen even recently on the Blogosphere, it does not. We are so sad for the loss of Poppy Vic and so many of our kitty friends. Our thoughts and hugs go out to those affected by this horrible disease.

Hugs and purrs, lets keep fighting this awful thing!

That was such a great tribute to the people that are all right. And the memories to the ones that have been lost. Take care.

We will keep sending purrs and we know your Dad will remain cancer free. We must defeat the Evil C. It doesn't fight fair but I do believe that together we can whip it.

What a beautiful post honoring your loved ones.

We look forward to the day when “cancer” is just a word for something that used to exist. We join you Living Strong today, and every day.

Much strength and love and purrs to those battling! The Human has some dear friends who fought hard and beat the odds--both have survived more than 8 years after facing scary-bad prognoses, so the Humans have to keep supporting research and funding for the good fight! XOXOXO

A great post! And good news about your dad and friends too. We are looking forward to the day treatments affect only the cancer cells, without all the side effects then finally being cancer free entirely.

What wonderful news about your dad!!! The 8 year old boy we mentioned in yesterday's post is our rabbi's son who has osteo sarcoma in his leg too. Wow, surgery and 2 years of chemo - and we're sure your dad went through similar stuff.
Cancer is suuuch a nasty horrid thing.

Beautiful tributes - and hugs to your dad that all is well with him now!
