Not again!

Thank you all for the blogoversary wishes yesterday! We're thrilled to have been here for two years and hope to be for many many more!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know we've been talking about the coconut oil a lot lately. A LOT. Please forgive this one, hopefully last, post about it. No, we do not work for the coconut oil consortium. We're just finding it working for us in ways we didn't expect.
I mentioned that I wondered if it was helping Star's arthritis the other day. And my cousin asked me about it, so I told her what I know, which, really isn't much. I mean, my vet literally just kind of tossed off, "put some coconut oil on it and get her to eat some if you can."
An aside here, this is the same way he tossed off to stop giving Leo fish because of his urine crystals problem. I looked into it and it's like and 'aha!' moment. Well duh! Why doesn't everyone know this? Why aren't you making it more emphatic instead of just "avoid fish" in a casual way? It should be "Your cat has crystals, he can't have fish!" Not wishy-washy.. anyway.. back to the subject..
So knowing my vet now, that he tosses the important stuff off the cuff like that, I didn't look it up, I just started giving it to her. Her loving it was a blessing really!
Oh yeah, back to my cousin, who, by the way, is the momma to these adorable guys:
She decided to look it up, and of course since she had doggies, this is from a doggy thingie, but obviously it goes for kitties too, since my vet prescribed it for a kitty! Anyway, look at this info she found:
       The advantages of giving your dog coconut oil are far-reaching:
          Reduces risk of cancers
          Improves digestion and addresses digestive disorders
          Promotes normal thyroid function
          Prevents and treats yeast and fungal infections
          Helps balance metabolism for a healthy weight
          Relieves arthritis
          Supports healthy skin and coat
       Applied topically coconut oil can:
          Disinfect cuts
          Improve skin and coat condition
          Speed wound healing
          Deodorize
          Clear up rashes
So it IS what's helping Star's arthritis! She is definitely staying on the stuff now!
That's right! *lick lick* You're not taking it away from me now! *lick lick lickity lick*
So without endorsing this brand of coconut oil at all, this is the one we're using:
This is solid, but apparently you can get liquid oil too. I'm betting it doesn't matter too much which variety you get. We got ours in the grocery store (Krogers) and it's the kind that has no coconut smell or taste. You can get other kinds in health food stores.
I think I've answered all the questions we've gotten about the stuff. At least I've said all I know! MOL
Hopefully this is the last coconut oil post we do. We don't want to make you all go running off screaming that I've turned this into a coconut oil blog!
We're still about the kitties here!
Honest!
Hello?
Come back!!!
;)
Tomorrow it'll be kitties, honest!
It's Our Blogoversary!
Seriously!
We've been blogging for two years! Hard to believe it's been that long!
I want to thank each and every one of you for making this one of the most fun things I've ever done! I appreciate all of you, the friendships, the kitties and other critters, the information, the fun! It's been great and we have no plans to stop any time soon!
Look what the amazing Ann of Zoolatry made for us!
Thank you Ann!
Here are some previously seen pictures of the kitties!
Leo
Star
Thank you for a wonderful two years! We love all of you!!
I don't want to forget to mention Chrystal at Daily Dose! Without her, we wouldn't have adopted Leo, and without adopting Leo, we wouldn't have been encouraged to start a blog, and without that.. well, we wouldn't have a second blogoversary!! So thank you Chrystal! We love you so much!
(Psst, you can still get in on the FUNdraiser for her Winnie's Wish cathouse cats by clicking the icon on the sidebar. And you can certainly adopt a kitty who needs a home so badly, then you can be has happy as we are having my heart kitty)
Star's Back
I meant to mention something the other day!
Remember the door sharing last weekend? I had such a good shot of Star's back and I totally forgot to point out that her hair was all coming back on her bald spot!
Here's a close up of her back.
That's not skin, that's fur! The shiny line there is where she parted it in her bath. Up on her neck is one of her hairless scars from when she was 'made a mommy' from a strange cat who broke into her home at the time.
I've stopped putting the coconut oil on her back because not only is the skin all smooth and no scabs and healthy looking, but she just over licks to get it off! She gets her coconut oil fix straight from the jar now! And trust me, if I forget, she reminds me!
I know some of you have said you give your kitties coconut oil, so I'm wondering if any of you have noticed something that I noticed in Star since she's been on it.
I've talked before about how Star gets a drink from her special glass in the bathroom every night, and that she used to jump up there for it but since she's gotten older and I'm pretty sure arthritis is starting to bother her, that she asks to be picked up and put there. It is the ONLY time she wants to be picked up and no, she does NOT want to be held because as soon as she is up, heads for that counter and if you try to stop her, she will claw her way there.
Anyway, since she's been on the coconut oil, she has stopped asking to be picked up. Shuns my offer of help with extreme prejudice! And she jumps up all by herself! Is it a coincidence? Is the coconut oil, for lack of a better word, 'oiling' up her joints? Does it work that way?
I know it's not the weather, as least I don't think so. It has warmed up some, but it's been very rainy and I'm pretty sure rain and damp does not make arthritis feel good.
All I know is that my little girl is looking, and feeling, better! Thanks for all the purrs!!
Oops, She Did It Again
She did it to me again! Every time Star gets to playing and being just the absolute cutest thing ever, and I get the camera out, she turns her back to me and I get nothing for pictures... She's a huge brat for such a tiny cat!
She was playing with her little black cat nip pillow, just rubbing it on her face, tossing it around, rolling around with it..
So I got out the camera. I turned it on behind my back, coughed to cover up the 'turning on' noise.. She flipped around and put her back to me. Sigh. Again.
I got one shot before she flipped.
Rubbity rubbity toy toy... purr bite toss grab!
Whoops, I heard that camera noise. Like a cough is gonna disguise it from me!
I'm listening, as soon as I hear it close, I'm gonna flip this sucker straight up in the air and then dive on it!
Gotta love her, right?
Mostly Wordless Wednesday
We're scared! Spitty is on the verge of attacking us if we don't show Star! So here's my sleeping girl!
But just to show that we're not THAT scared.. here's sleeping Leo too!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

By the way, Dear Tonk's Tail! We could comment on you ONE day! Now we're back to the white box and no comment box... Our Norton is still fixed and we can't figure out what's going on! Critters in the Cottage can't comment on you either. Don't think we don't want to, we just cant!

Leo's Behind Bars!

I know what you're thinking.. What did my boy do to get himself into jail... Did he rub out Star? Did he claw the mommy? Did he bite the daddy? No no no, you have it all wrong!

Leo's Behind Bars doesn't mean he's in jail. It means that Leo has bars on his behind!

Seriously! I was shocked, SHOCKED I tells ya!

I mean, when you're used to having two solid grey kitties, suddenly finding bars on a butt is just.. mind blowing!

But wait, maybe I'm crazy. You can't suddenly develop stripey bum syndrome, can you? Did he get into someone else's cat suit today?? Is it a trick of the light??? or am I just seeing things?

Let me show you what I'm seeing and see if you see it too...

See his back flank? His thigh? The side of his behind?? Are those stripes??
I don't see nothing, what are you seeing?

Here's a close up. Is it the light? Is he rumpled funny?
Mommy.. you're getting a little too close with that flashy box.. Watch it or I'll poot at ya.

Let's see this from the beginning, shall we? Here's an early picture of Leo when he was a wee sprout running around Chrystal's office, still fairly feral. Do you see any stripes on that baby butt? I don't..

And here he is a little older, in the cathouse I think. See any stripes here?? 'Cause, again, I sure don't!

Did Star give him such a swipe across the bum that it striped his furs? I sure don't know what happened... But at least in the top pictures, I swear there are stripes on my grey baby!

Um, can someone call the men in white suits now to take me away, give me a fancy new coat that ties in the back and put me in the room with the padded walls?

I think I got my commenting problems fixed! I had an issue with my Norton virus protection, apparently I was missing a master registry key, a reinstall did not work so I got them to take over my computer and fix it, and bam! I can comment! I don't know if a virus got past it and ate the master key thingie, or what, but I am all good now and can comment and bug them over at Tonk's Tail again! Weeee!!!
I'd also been having trouble getting some comments to stay after I posted them on other sites, Daily Dose included! And I'm hoping that's all fixed now too!

Whiiffy Weekend

We had a few days of fairly ok weather, and being such spoilers of our kitties, we left the door open for them to get some whiffs, even though it was a touch too chilly for the humans. Ok, actually it was all Greg's idea! He wanted them to get some sniffs so I had to suffer and borrow a blanket from Star.

What really shocked us, was that they managed to SHARE the door! Star went first, of course. But because it wasn't opened wide, I didn't get a picture of her there. After she'd had her fill, she moved back to her spot on the carpet. She loves to sit there when the door is open and I have no idea why.

So she took her secondary spot, and Leo got up his nerve and got into the door himself! And Star let him!

You can just see his tail in the door in this picture.

Star: Just don't make it a long turn..

After Leo had his sniffs, he peeked out to see where the girl was before he vacated the doorway.
Leo: Um.. I'm done now. I'm going to my tree, so.. just stay where you are, k?
Star: Yeah yeah, hurry up or I will give you a smack to get you moving.

Peace reigned! Yay!

I know that we are not the only ones having trouble commenting on the Tonk's Tail.. er Tale blog. Can someone who CAN comment ask them if they know about it and what we can do to post? All I see is a big white box where the comment thingie used to be.

Still looking for people to drive a leg of the trip to California from Illinois over at Daily Dose! Please, especially if you're out west, let Chrystal know if you can help drive Frosting and Hershey Bear to their forever home!
