A couple of my cousins stopped over this week. One of them brought me an unexpected gift. Her mother, my aunt, passed away this year. I memorialized her on Livestrong Day. My aunt was very crafty and one of her talents is painting. She painted me a beautiful statuette of a mailbox one Christmas. It was supposed to have, I think, four birds on it, but she knew how much I liked cats, so she replaced one with a kitty. She told me though, that the kitty never gets to catch the birds!
It seems she’d been doing paint by numbers for a long time. I’m not talking the little ones you give to children, but the larger, complicated ones. Like anything, depending on the talent of the artist, these can be really sloppy and badly done, or beautifully rendered. My aunt, as I said, was talented.
My cousin found three of the paintings with kitties on them and she decided to give them to me. She had a frame in one, and she showed me that one first. It was a kitty sitting on a birdhouse and I loved it. The second one was three kittens looking out a window at a birdie, kitty TV, I loved that one too.
The third one, she said, she thought was ugly and I didn’t have to keep it if I didn’t want to. Then she showed it to me and I flipped out! My favorite Charles Wysocki painting is called Frederick the Literate. And that’s what she gave me!
I looked into getting a print once, but they are out of my price range. I settled for the calendar with his cat prints, including Frederick. She probably thought I was nuts because I was squealing like a goon! I mean, I love that painting! And it really is beautifully rendered. I love the other two paintings! Love them! But wow, I have my favorite done by my own aunt, that’s just too cool! (Here are other Wysocki Cats) I can’t thank her enough and I can’t wait to hang them!
Leo, while shy at first, came out to see my cousins. And he even consented to play and show off his mighty leaps!

Rearranged
Wow did we have a busy weekend! I guess it should be expected, it IS that season after all.
Before I get to today’s post, I have to make a plea! Emma and Buster left a comment and on Friday and mentioned that their momma was thinking about adopting another kitty! That’s ALWAYS a good thing! My plea is, please please consider adopting that kitty from Chrystal! She has the sweetest kitties and distance is no object!
Anyone else looking for a kitty, please head over there too! Trust me, you will NOT regret it!
On to today’s post!
We moved a few more things back into the living room. Leo got all nosey.
Hey, I think I remember these thingies. Didn’t they used to have all kinds of books and stuff on them?
Look how tall my boy is!
Ah, stretch and scratch, my favorite passtime. You didn’t like this new paint, right mommy?
I tossed down a few toys that had been hiding.
That's right.. Keep walkin’ Princess.... This my fevver..
Don’t worry, favver, I keep you safe. Til I nom you!
Who needs feathers..
I got my kickaroo!
Ok, it’s been sufficiently subdued. My job is finished here.
Don’t worry kitties, more toys coming out tomorrow!

Friday’s Star
The other day my niece asked me why I never did a post only about Star. And you know, I really have no reason other than that Leo is the reason I started this blog in the first place. But it the blog is titled Celestial Kitties so she is included and I’ve declared today as Star’s Day.
I’m pretty sure I’ve written about how I acquired Star, but I’ll give a brief explanation for any new readers. At the time I had three cats; Kikken, an extremely round calico, Nikita, a very old Himalayan that I’d sort of taken from a neighbor a few years before, and Calvin, a big black kitty that I’d rescued from some neighborhood kids when he was barely old enough to be weaned.
Calvin was fairly old and had stayed a scardy cat all his life, Kikken only cared about food and scritches, but Nikita ruled the household with an iron paw since the day she arrived. Nikita was a tough old broad and came with a scar on her nose from a tussle with a neighborhood dog. She won.
One day I was sitting in my car waiting for the nieces to get out of school and I noticed a free kittens sign on the house I parked next to. I didn’t think much of it, having a full house already, until one day I saw a kitty on the porch.
This petite little grey kitty was sitting with her back to the door non-stop meowing. I had always wanted a gray kitty but whenever one came into my life, it was destined for someone else. Ah ha! I thought, I could have one now.. However there was never anyone home when we would check. I kept trying.
Star was the first kitty I ever prayed about, and I was specific, if I was to have her, let someone be home at the time I pick up the girls. One day I noticed the door was propped open, an answer! I sent my nephew to the door to see if there was anyone home, and was totally shocked to see him enter the house! Hello! Stranger danger!
I never ran from a car so fast in my life. By the time I got to the porch, my nephew was on his way out, kitty in his arms. Only it was not a kitten. None of the kittens were grey, only one of the momma’s. Star, as she’d been named by his daughters, was two years old. They were glad someone came for her, as they planned on tossing her out since they divorced and neither of them wanted the cats. (Some people make me want to scream..)
I did the wrong thing when I brought her in, I just put her down in the living room. She spent the next two days behind the couch. My uncle helped me catch her and I put her in the cat/laundry room and got to know her. She was very friendly and loved getting pets. After a few days I let her out again and she systematically showed the other cats that she would now be the boss of the house.
Kikken and Calvin were fine with this. Nikita claimed a booster chair in the dining room and rarely left it except to fight. I’ve never been sure if the arrival of Star was a coincidence or if it contributed to things, but Nikita also started throwing up every day at around the same time. We took her to the vet and he said she had many things wrong with her, some of which he could treat, but a lot of it was her extreme age.
That was the first time we heard that Nikita was old at all as we never knew anything about her other than that her owner, an elderly woman, moved into a nursing home and her son, a neighbor down the street, took her in, but couldn’t keep her inside. Which is when I grabbed her, thinking that’s not an outside kitty, especially since she was friendly and declawed. I took her in and put up signs. The neighbor called, said I could keep her and he’d bring over her things, but we never saw him.
But this is about Star! Star had taken an instant dislike to Nikita and it was mutual. I’m not sure what would have happened had Nikita not been so sick that we had to put her to sleep.
Calvin and Kikken were quick to bow to Star’s reign, but they were both old kitties by then too and within four years, Star was an only kitty.
She was a very happy only kitty. I think that’s why she has such a hard time with Leo, she’s over 12 now, and set in her ways. She’s the old timer and he’s the young whippersnapper come to dethrone the queen. So far, she’s holding on to her title though, and I think he just wants to play.
Recent days have shown that they can tolerate being in the same space without trouble, so we’re all hopeful now!
Star sleeps just outside our bedroom door, leaning against the wall. It may look like a cold lonely spot and that she’s been banished. But this is where she has slept in cold weather for years. Right behind that very spot is a furnace duct and the wall is warm.
Recall the Throne chair introduced a few days ago? The one I should have had out in the living room instead of folding chairs all this remodeling time? Well Greg has been using it and Star is either not happy with that or she just wants to be near her daddy. Either is possible..
I just missed her stretching there.. Is your digital camera slow to snap pictures too? Frustrating!
Didn’t it look like she was getting into the chair in that last picture? No no, just stretching, pretending not to be scratching.. To get into the chair she walked all the way around and climbed up the back! She was in a very goofy mood!
Did you ever notice the white spots on Star’s neck in some pictures? They are little scars that she had when we got her. The hair never grew back there. We suspect she got it when she was um.. getting her kittens. Apparently a male cat clawed through a window screen when no one was home and both females, Star included, were in heat. Both had kittens, thus the free kitten sign.
Here’s a closer up look.
Know what’s funny, she loves having those areas scratched. What ever she wants I guess.
So there’s Star’s story in a nutshell. A long nutshell!
Ok, it's Star's day, so let me tell you what She's getting for Christmas, and you can get one for your kitty or doggie too! The rescuer who saved Leo is selling bricks for her Winnie's Wish Walkway, which goes to the cat house that Leo lived in until I adopted him. She's a private rescuer, and badly in need of funds to care for the kitties and doggies she has been saving.
It's an extremely worthy cause, so please please consider buying a brick in honor or memory of your pets! Star's brick is already ordered, and I'll show it when it comes in and gets placed in the walkway.
If you'd like one for your self or a friend to honor or memorialize their kitties, check out this post.
Support a worthy cause and give a gift at the same time! But hurry, I should have told you about this sooner, but there's only a day or so left to get one!
Oh, and look at the sweet kitties that still need homes! You know you want to adopt one! Distance is no problem, they always find a way to get kitties into their homes!

No, you may not pass. I’ll take your ankle if you try to go to the bathroom..

What do you mean ‘narrow arm’ my little feet fit just fine.
Stop flashing that light in my face, I’m comfortable here.
He’s my daddy, I claim him. Until he gets out of my chair that is..
I just missed her stretching there.. Is your digital camera slow to snap pictures too? Frustrating!
This is still my chair too. No barbarians allowed.
Didn’t it look like she was getting into the chair in that last picture? No no, just stretching, pretending not to be scratching.. To get into the chair she walked all the way around and climbed up the back! She was in a very goofy mood!
I don’t know what you’re talking about... Hmm, I wonder if I jump on that table if it will tip over. Bet it would make a spectacular crash! Aw poo, mom’s watching.. Maybe later.

Warm Floors At Last!
We have carpet!! I haven’t had time to write because we’ve been busy, and then no sleep, and then sleeping all day making up for it.. Well, it was a long process, but we have carpet!
That meant, of course, that Leo spent another day under the bed. Star hid as well, but she came out once when it got all quiet. It took ALLLL day because first they had to repair the cement that Greg had repaired by the door. If it’s not smooth enough then all the bumps show through the vinyl.
But it’s all in, and it’s even more beautiful than I thought it would be!
Over the next week or so, we’ll be getting everything back in. Well, just the stuff we want, I’m taking the opportunity to declutter a little. Of course, all the moving around willl probably make the kitties hide again.. But I think they'll be happy when it's all done. I know I will!
(Thanks threecatyard for pointing out that I meant hexagon not octogon!)

But it’s all in, and it’s even more beautiful than I thought it would be!
Here’s the first view, before the cats got up the nerve to come down.
Star took a peek from the stairs. The stairs are in the solid coordinating color to match the patterned carpet.
Is it safe to come down yet?
Then Leo had to check it out.
Ooooo soft and cushy!
Leo got all over faster than Star, who kept herself hidden, or followed her daddy while Leo snooped.
Leo: Hey, can I use this as a scratchy?
Mom: NO!
Leo: Ok, ok, I’ll just.. stretch... hee hee
He then checked out the Vinyl by the door and in the closet.
This stuff isn’t cushy, but I think I like it anyway, it’s not lumpy like the cold stuff we’ve had lately!
Yep, I think I like it all, where’s my snack?
Star was happy to get her snack, hiding all day makes one hungry.
What do you mean we’re messy and have to have our snack bowls on paper plates until we get mats? I’ll have you know I’m a perfect lady, even when I eat. The crumbs around my bowl are from... the barbarian! Yes, you know he always licks my bowl clean! And I lick his clean.. but that’s because he’s sloppy! See!
Well, I’m happy! I got the Royal Footstool AND I get to play!
Star: When’s my turn?
Leo: uh... Tomorrow?
Look what Greg saw! This is a first! No growling! And I finally get a side by side picture of my babies! Leo is laying down, looking nervous and defensive, and Star is sitting up looking curious. And no fight!
Here’s a peek at the pattern. I love four things: Kitties, roses, blue, and butterflies. If only there were kitties playing with butterflies in some of those octogons hexagons! Still, I think it’s gorgeous.
Over the next week or so, we’ll be getting everything back in. Well, just the stuff we want, I’m taking the opportunity to declutter a little. Of course, all the moving around willl probably make the kitties hide again.. But I think they'll be happy when it's all done. I know I will!

OOF
I may have mentioned, ages ago, in this blog that Star will sometimes sleep on my back (or play queen of the hill by sleeping on my bum), and if I’m awake and reading, she will sit on my hip so that I have one hand free to pet her as she does happy paws making millions of punctures with her ever so sharp needle claws.
She has not been doing this much lately because Leo has gotten comfortable sleeping on the bed. She will jump up, see him all sprawled out, on his back, legs stretched in every direction, then she’ll give me a disgusted look, glance at him with utter disdain at his excessive display of contentment on HER bed, grumble a little and then leave in a huff.
She still shows up as soon as her daddy’s alarm goes off. Leo usually disappears around this time, whether because of the incessant noise or because Greg starts moving around, hitting snooze, getting back in, hitting snooze, getting back in, etc. is anyone’s guess.
Morning is Star’s time to get mega-attention from her favorite person in the world. He will pet her until he’s almost late for work if she demands it. And she, at her advanced age of over 12, will roll around like a kitten getting all the scritches and pets she can stand. It’s pure bliss for her.
If I’m awake at this time, she will occasionally wander over to let me pet her and pay homage to her highness. However, she will tell me she’s done by putting the bitey on me or slashing me with those aforementioned super sharp claws. Daddy never, ever, gets that treatment by the way..
This morning, as she waited for her daddy to come back from the other room, she allowed me to pet her. And boy was she affectionate! She leaned hard into my hand wanting more. I coaxed her onto my hip for a little while because, despite the claw holes she digs into me, I love when she sits on me. She wouldn’t stay there though, she wanted more rubbin’ scritchin’ lovin’ and pettin’s! Then daddy came back in and she was done with me.
I turned over and went to sleep, he went to work and she went back downstairs presumably. At some point in the wee hours of the morning (my morning; it was light out!) I woke up when a furry body landed on my back. OOF, I thought, she’s usually more dainty than that! But I smiled, because my little girl came back and I had a soft furry back-warmer.
She didn’t really settle in though and before I could drop back off to sleep, she jumped down. Actually, she bounced down.. That’s when I realized that it was NOT my petite little girl. It was my big bouncy boy who’d landed smack in the middle of my back! No wonder it woke me up!
This makes me happy for two reasons, now I have two kitties to keep me warm at night, and it makes up for Leo abandoning me earlier to sleep between Greg’s feet and not at my hip so I could pet him!
Furry love really is the best!

His feet, her feet, her hip, who cares as long as it's warm. And don't tell mommy, but I might have jumped on her back to get at her water glass on the other side... hee hee

Sunny Days
We had a few sunny days recently. Thankfully! We are not looking forward to snow! The sunny days made it possible to have open windows and doors, even if it was a little cool for the humans, the kitties just loved it!
There's great stuff out there, but I still gotta stalk watch Star in the door.
I have to watch that barbarian, you never know when he might leap out of the window and try to get me. That's why I sit so far from the good door view.
Oo, was that a bird?
It's bright outside, but mom keeps aiming that flashy thing at me.. it's distracting!
Oh! Squirrel!
(note the "I'm gonna get you" ears)
