I make sure she doesn't hear it open. I'm careful not to look straight at her so she KNOWS I'm looking at her.. And yet, it always seems like that's the exact moment when she rolls the other way! Argh!
Like this, for instance. She was facing me, and looking as adorable as possible playing with her kitten kick-a-roo. The camera comes out, and before I turn it on, she's rolled over.
Couldn't help it, it was trying to get away!
Then she rolled around so I could sort of get kind of the side of her.. and she hides her face in the toy!
I love my kickies, I love to rub my face on them! Rub rub rub!
Thought I was going to get a good one here, but at the last second, she kicked it over her head with her back feet!
Wee! Kicky is really moving today!
So I give up and put the camera down. And she rolls to fully face me again... Reach for the camera, and she's done, gets up and zooms out of the room and I swear, leaves behind those little dust clouds that you see in Road Runner cartoons! *sigh* Gotta love her!

TBT keeps the flashy in his pocket, which makes it trickier to tell when its around.
Don't give up! That perfect shot is just, well, perhaps a few hundred shots away! Tee hee.
one solution would be to install 24hour surveillance cameras throughout your house. it would probably take her about a week to figure out a way around that as well but at least you might have a week's worth of great photos.
It's some sort of universal, unwritten cat law. Seriously.
The Furries are right though. When the boys are outside in better weather and I'm trying for decent snapshots, especially of their tussling, I'll take 100+ in quick succession, just to get a few good ones.
It's a game we cats play, ready to ruin a purrfectly good shot on purrpose 'cause we know there'll be many more chances to be cute!
That takes lots of practice to purrfect that timing!
Our mum turns the camera on in another room so we don't hear it, but we still know.
Brulee hates the flashy box, too! It doesn't matter where Mom Paula turns it on - Brulee closes her eyes or turns her head when the flashy box points at her.
Star, you are doing a great job of camera avoidance! I love to just sit there and look everywhere else BUT at the camera - it makes my human crazy!
It's a cat trick!
Oh Esme plays that game too and she is very good at it just like Star!! :)
the critters in the cottage xo
So clearly it makes all of us doing bunny kick and so happy!
Look how coy Star is playing it! How adorable!
I sympathize with you - it can be so challenging to capture what you want with a camera.
But your shots show the playful ingenuity of your Star kitty!

Star, we girl cats are awesome ruining the picture opportunity!
mol! oh, Star, you are good! way to foil the pawparazzi :D we're especially like that when our mom brings out the movie box - we stop doing whatever cute thing it was she wanted to film, hee hee!
Pip, SMidgen, Minnie, Hollie
heh,heh,heh.... you got it down right Star!
Unfortunately, my camera makes a little chime-y noise when I turn it on and if I turn it on too long before I want to take pictures--yep, it shuts itself off. Spitty hears that chime and makes it his personal business to turn away EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.
I guess I gotta respect the effort it takes.
Us kitties are just wired that way.
...and most of us LOVE that it drives our humans crazy.
; ) Katie
MOL we do the same thing....drives Mom crazy.
Um...maybe not as crazy as the post above ours!!!
The Florida Furkids
Me does that too! Drives Mommy nuts!!

Yep, us kitties are pretty darn smart aren't we!
