Leo was on the chair next to his tree, just minding his own business and keeping an eye on everything like he does. I think he sits there when there’s not much out the window to see to be honest with you.
Star.. how do I put this delicately... Star has a few times of day when she runs around like a lunatic, like she doesn’t feel even half of her 13 years, and many of those times occur after a trip to the powder room.. I understand that she is not the only kitty to engage in this kind of wildness after ..um, lightening up shall we say? Anyway, I don’t understand it but there it is.
So Star is running around, jumping from chair to couch, tearing up and down the stairs, across the back of the couch, up daddy’s chair, and she ended up by the perpetual stack of boxes where she halted.
Leo, who’d been watching all of this with wide eyes and twitchy tail, dived off of his chair and under the Royal Footstool. Even though there was a blanket draped over part of it, Star could clearly see him.
Star dropped down to put her chin on the floor, rear slightly in the air and had the wide eyes and twitchy tail Leo had just been showing. I was a nervous wreck! I was sure world war three was about to start, and I would be in the crossfire! However, I’d told Greg that since they started looking like they might maybe sorta kinda want to play, that we should keep calm when they get close and wait to see what they’re gonna do. So I did my best to keep calm. Wasn’t easy folks!
Suddenly, in that fast herd of elephants way of hers, Star dove under the Royal Footstool!
Where Leo was!
At the same time!
Be still my heart, which was in my throat let me tell you! But then almost as soon as she dived under it, she came out the side. And she didn’t run away, no, she stopped just as soon as she emerged and turned to look back under at Leo. Who hadn’t moved! One of them, I seriously don’t know which, gave a short, quiet little hiss.
Tiny hiss by their usual standards! And Leo was not doing his grumbly thing that he does when he’s telling me she’s too close mom save me! They were quiet, just looking at each other from like INCHES away.
Then Star just turned and walked away. Done with her run, she just sauntered over to daddy’s chair, or should I say her chair that she allows daddy to use.. and settled in for a bath and a nap.
A little while later, Leo came out and needed a snuggle, which I was glad to give him. Star got lots of praise too as I told her what a sweet girl she was. My heart returned to its previous location. Whew!
On the heels of this second almost play thing, we have not closed off the upstairs for two nights. There has been one fight, that was mostly hissing and nothing else. I hope hope hope this is going to be our Christmas miracle!
Because I’ve been so busy with the fundraiser and trying to do some shopping, I still don’t have any new pictures, so I’m sticking you with some old ones again.. but I personally think they’re still adorable! Might be because they’re my babies, MOL
Leo: I like to chew on this birdie's string rather than the birdie!
Star: Do I look like I want something he's been drooling on?
Star: Have a good nappy weekend everyone.
Leo: G'night zzzzzzz
Speaking of the Winnie's Wish Christmas Fundraiser, as I mentioned before if you want to join in, you need to do so by Sunday if you want them by Christmas. If you haven't received yours yet, they will be out this week!

Hmmm. Well, to be absolutely honest and unbiased, it *does* sorta, kinda sound like playing to the Human. Me, I am an only cat, so I only play with the Human (on her luckiest of days, MOL!) but the Human who has had more than one at a time on many occasions, says: Yes, Play.
Every kitty in his or her own time! Yours are just taking their own sweet time!
Perhaps they enjoy keeping you guessing what will happen next!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Hooray for Christmas miracles. It can take a long time for cats to figure out where they fit in with each other in the household. Maybe Star and Leo are finally reaching that point of mostly-truce. Paws crossed!
I think they might just be adjusting and that Christmas miracle might be close at paw!
That is so great that they have sort of come to an agreement or something. Gives me hope for Baby Doll. Take care and have a great week end.
Wonderful!
Purrs,
The Chans
The craziest bit is it sounds like Star is initiating it--and it does sound like play to me, too!
Oh, yes! This sounds like play to me! They are just kind of easing into it.
Love Star's expression in that photo.
We cats always like to do the unexpected, even if we take our own sweet time doing it!

Oh yeah...it does sound a bit like play. And we hope it continues and gets better!
(We got our ornaments yesterday and we hafta say we are so pleased with them! They are hanging on our tree right now. Thanks!!!)
Yeah, that sounds a lot like playing, if you ask us. :) We have our paws crossed that this continues! :)
Seems they are beginning to trust and want to play. That is great that they have made this step forward. We will be hoping for that Christmas miracle with you and look forward to hearing about their many play times together. Hugs and nose kisses
Ótimo eles estão fazendo progresso, agora é só esperar e manter a calma, o que é quase impossível pra nós humanas totalmente apaixonadas por gatos hehe. As fotos são muito boas!
I would like to know about the correlation between using the litterbox and behaving like a lunatic afterward... Theo and Diego-san both do this a lot.... I do wonder what it is about....
Allie: Oh Star! I completely sympathize with your expression in that photo! The very last thing I would want is something Faraday's already drooled on *delicate shudder*
Oh WoW!
I wish my 14 year old would be less hissy with her 2 year old sibbling! Keeping up the good vibes!

Hi darling Star, I am glad you don't punish your Daddy too harshly for picking you up. It really does seem that sometimes the Humans just cannot help themselves in the face of our adorability. We just have to be patient with them and squirm politely to be put down. I myself do not bite or scratch, though really no one could blame me if I did, but I am persistent in my efforts to escape the grabby hands. Sigh. Humans.
Slowly but surely... Two of mine, Josie and Tucker play together, but only when I come home from work. Then they chase each other, from one room to another, through the nylon tunnel, around furniture. It started just a few months ago, and never occurs any other time. I'm thankful that it does at all.
And my Tungsten, twelve and a half, shoots around the house like Star does, and after the same sort of visit to the facilities. I'm glad humans don't have a corresponding behaviour...
Have a delicious week!!!! Kisses!
Your kitties sound like mine... I thought they hated each other for the longest time, but I see them playing together more and more. :)
Andrea, I wanted you to know I received the awesome Christmas ornaments/toys on Friday. But here's how I discovered they had arrived: I got home from work and fed the cats as usual. When I put Buffy's dish down I noticed some chewed pieces of manilla envelope under the stairs. (Buffy likes to chew paper, so I thought nothing of it.) I went upstairs to change and noticed Buffy playing with a toy. I looked and realized it was one of the ornaments. I figured my mom had opened the package and had given them to the cats already. I went downstairs and asked my mom if a package had come. (She had just gotten home herself.) She said, "Yes. It's on the stairs." I said, "Uh... no it's not." Then I noticed another ornament in the hallway. I knew there had to be another ornament around I looked and discovered it behind the couch! Since my mom didn't open the package we figured that the cats smelled the catnip, ripped open the package and started playing with the toys! Odd thing was we couldn't find the envelope. I searched all over the house and finally discovered it shoved under the couch! I imagined the cats knew they weren't supposed to open their Christmas present and decided to hide the evidence! ;) Needless to say they LOVE their Christmas toys! They play with them all the time... even passing up Da Bird! Thanks so much for making them!
