Paw Pads

You know how soft and sweet indoor kitty toe pads are? How they look like little jelly beans? Don’t you just want to kiss them? (As long as they aren’t just out of the litter box anyway..) I love kitty paw pads, they’re just too adorable.

If you’ve been following long, you might know that we’re in the middle of a painfully long, oh, I guess we can call it remodel, more like a fix up, but whatever. Anyway, we’ve been without carpet in the livingroom for several weeks now.

This has had an unexpected effect on sweet soft kitty paw pads! They’re little feet are getting all rough and dusty looking. I noticed it today when Leo was trying to get comfortable on my neck and kicked me in the face. Now, he’s not real crazy about having his paws played with. The back ones especially. I can play with his extra toed front feet if he’s in a good mood. With the back feet I have to wait until he’s asleep to tease them.

Not that he’s mean about it. I mean when you do something Star doesn’t like, she’ll bite or slash and you KNOW you’ve done something wrong. Leo on the other hand, when he gets fussy about something, he grabs with the front paws and pushing with the back ones. Not bunny kicking, because he’s not kicking really, he’s just shoving.

Either that or he does his other thing. He opens his mouth and lunges! ...And smacks your hand with his teeth. No bites, just kinda beats you with his face. Yes, my boy is odd..

Anyway, back to their paw pads. After Leo finished kicking me in the chin, turning around and sneezing tuna breath in my face then deciding that I must be irritating him, he took off. So I tracked down Star and checked her paw pads. Yup, they’re rough too. Of course, checking hers got me more than a kick and a sneeze. I’ve got the red marks to prove it!

Boy do I hope the carpet comes in soon so they can soften back up! If I’m gonna get punished for teasing toes, I’d like them to be softy toes!

Star
What is this flavor...

Ah, I remember. Mommy Skin..

Great, now I have to do a deeper clean.
And these pads are rough on my tongue!

Leo
Cement dust..

Paw pads as rough as a dogs....

Folded Kitty

Remember this from a couple weeks ago?

Silly Leo sleeping all folded in half looking like someone broke the kitty. Well he's been at it again.

Is it just that he's outgrowing the back of the couch? He IS a HUGE kitty. But still, most of the time he sleeps straight and fits there well.
Does he like the feeling of falling? Cause it sure looks like he's about to slide down off of there, doesn't he?
Does he like the smell of his own feet? I think he's a sweet smelling kitty, but even I wouldn't stuff his paws up my nose..
Is he cold? It has been getting chillier.

I think I know what it is. I think he's just a big ol' goofball and even sleeping he must prove this over and over!

Now, don't you just want to scoop him up and snuggle the folded broken kitty? I do!

Edit: Oh goodness, I keep forgetting to add the banner for Diabetes awarness month! Greg was just diagnosed with diabetes about two weeks ago. And let me tell you, he's not happy! Anyway, so we are posting this with brand new feelings on the subject.

Blogging For Peace

Today we are joining with bloggers around the world to blog for peace. You can read about it at the official site HERE.

Around here, all we want is peace. Leo and Star are still all growly at each other, but there are glimpses of hope. They will sleep on the same bed, they will play with the same toy at the same time, they will accept pets even when they KNOW the hand is contaminated by the other one's scent. It gets better, but they still chase each other. Still, no out and out fights, so we're counting that to the good!

We hope you have peace today, and for peace around the world!

Loving Cup

I know I’ve said before that Star gets her drinks from a special glass on the bathroom sink. And if she thinks it’s not fresh enough, I must refill it or she will give it the back of disrespect, complete with twitching tail. She’s just a touch demanding..

Leo likes this special glass too and he loves to drink it down so far that Star can no longer reach the water. He’s a brat, my boy is, and a tall one, which is how he can stick his head further into the glass.

Star, short little girl that she is, is just tall enough to drink from the top of the glass. Any further than a few inches down and the rim is in her neck. Leo can drink it about five inches down. I think he does it on purpose.

It goes without saying that there are two bowls of fresh water next to two food dishes downstairs.

Tonight, Leo came barging in and looked like he wanted up for a drink, so I picked him up. Not just for a cuddle, but because he’s still not sure he can make the jump to the counter. I always said he was a bad jumper, but he’s gotten pretty good lately, just not with that counter.

He didn’t let me cuddle him tonight though, he wanted that water! So I put him up there and let him at it. I had just filled it for Star, but she didn’t make an appearance. As he was getting his drink, loudly as usual, I noticed something funny. He was standing on three paws and the fourth paw was wrapped around the glass!

That wasn’t odd and cute enough. He stopped drinking, and reached around the bottom of the glass. There is nothing there, but he kept doing it. Then I saw that he wasn’t looking at his paw or whatever invisible thing it was reaching for. He was looking in the mirror. Watching himself reach around the glass!

The only other time I’ve seen him notice a mirror, he growled at the big grey kitty in it! This was too cute. But it didn’t last. After a few moments, he went back to his drink. This time using the other paw to wrap around the glass! Ok, so this wasn’t to watch it in the mirror, and the only thing it was grabbing was the glass so.. He think’s he’s human and will one day pick up the glass for a drink with his big oversized paw? Is that what the extra toes are for? Hmmm

I didn’t have a camera when he was doing that, or believe me there’d be pictures! But the other day I did get a picture of Star drinking just because I thought the way she was standing was cute.

Stop watching me drink. The glass is full, your job is done. For now.

See her back feet? She doesn't normally do that, but pigeon toed kitty is too cute!

Star drinks with the glass where it is in the picture, and will give me ‘the look’ if I don’t put it there. But Leo drinks it from where it’s kept during the day on the other side of the towel holder. He probably doesn’t care where it is, Star does..

Puss and Kitty

This is going to be sort of non-kitty, but stay tuned, kitties at the end!

This weekend we went to the drive in. I say sort of non-kitty because what we went to see was Puss In Boots! I don’t care what anyone says, I love animated movies, and I no longer feel the need to borrow someone else’s kids to justify going to see them. I embrace my inner child and see them because *I* want to see them!

Besides, it’s Antonio Banderas! Who doesn’t want to hear that voice?? I don’t know about you, but he makes me purr. :)

Anyway, it was a really good movie but I wont spoil it for anyone by giving anything away. Just go see it, or rent it when it comes out, because when he does those big pleading kitty eyes, you’ll want to do whatever he says too!

The reason I bring it up is because we saw something that was too sweet not to share. It wasn’t the movie, though that was cute. During the credits of Puss in Boots the guy in the car in front of us got out of his car then reached back in and picked up a little kid, maybe two or three years old. As he went to put her in the back seat he started dancing with her to the end credits. It was adorable.

Then he went to the passenger side and pulled out another little one, maybe three or four years old. And as he went to put that one in the back seat, he also danced with him for a little while. Too sweet, you could almost hear the giggling.

And then his wife got out of the front and he danced with her! Can you say awwwww? I mean, what a sweet family! It wasn’t that big of a car, but I could just imagine all four of them all cuddled up in the front seat watching Puss In Boots! Almost cuter than the movie.

If only we hadn’t stayed for the second feature... Then we would have left with that good feeling. But alas, niece 2 really really wanted to see Footloose. I mean, first off, you do NOT remake Kevin Bacon... That’s just silly! And second, if you’re going to remake it, maybe you should think about updating it a little. And no, just adding a reference to cell phones is not updating it. I would almost swear that most of the dialog was identical to the original! The music sure was.. Anyway, that one is a "don’t waste your money" movie. But that’s just my opinion. I much prefer Bacon personally.

So on to kitties!

One of Star’s favorite games is playing with the back scratcher as I wiggle it back and forth under the sheets. She will attack like mad, bunny kick, put the bitey on it and just go crazy! She loves it.

So the other day when Leo was sitting on the bed, I decided to see if he would want to play that game. After all, he’s a playing fool! He loves to play, and if he can’t find a toy, he will make one out of anything, even if he has to steal it from the trash or tissue box.

However, back scratcher in the sheets was a total flop. He looked horrified. He acted like something icky was under there and he didn’t want to get his paws in it. And after a cursory sniff or two, he took off like the boogey monster was after his tail!

Did that move? Did you see that?

What the...

There IS something there..

Play with it? Are you kidding me, lady?

That’s it, I’m outta here.. That thing’s got a mind of it’s own!
