Some of the Faces of Winnie's Wish

Today I thought I'd share a few of the kitties who benefit from the Winnie's Wish Insta-Auction. Kitties who also, by the way, could really use a great home of their own!

The first kitty I want to share is Betty Lou. Betty Lou has a disability. She can't use one of her front legs. It doesn't slow her down, she is perfectly adjusted to it. But it might make some people think she's less adoptable. But I know that how many legs you have doesn't matter, what matters is how big your heart is. Can we find a great home for this wonderful pretty girl?

The next kitty I want to talk about is actually two kitties! A bonded brother and sister. A bonded bob-tailed brother and sister! Talk about the cute factor! Kizzie and Bunny!

Kizzy only has one eye, but again, doesn't bother him. He's an adorable tabby and his sister is an adorable flame point with blue eyes. How these two are still waiting for a forever home is beyond me! Lets see if we can find someone who can appreciate their beauty and playfulness!

One more kitty who needs a home, also might be considered less adoptable, though again, I don't buy it. Traci Mae may be an older kitty, but that's ok. She's been called ugly, but that's NOT ok. She's not ugly! No kitty is ugly! There is someone out there for Traci Mae, I know it.

Actually, with Traci Mae, I don't want to talk about her, per say. You can read about her on her page on Daily Dose. I want to talk about her soon to be person.
Do you know someone, perhaps an older couple, a recently retired person, someone who may be a little lonely? Someone like that might be the perfect person for an older kitty like Traci Mae. Someone with time to lavish her with the affection and attention she needs and wants. This someone has the ability to help with her minor issue. A change in diet, which isn't possible in a shelter situation, is probably all she needs. Someone who can take the time to try different foods until her eyes stop weeping. Now, some kitties have this issue just because they have white around their eyes and it can't be helped. So this someone who would be her perfect person would have to be ok with it. It's not a big deal, really. It doesn't make her sick or cause her problems.
So. Do you know this person? Is this person or people a friend or family member of someone you know? Does your best friend have parents who could be Traci Mae's forever family? Please, think about it, ok? And if you do know them, please, please, contact Chrystal and get them together!

If you or someone you know could be the family for any of these kitties, or any other Winnie's Wisher, contact Chrystal: c3k@lazernetwireless.net  OR chrystaldparker11@gmail.com
Don't forget to look at the other kitties on the sidebar of Daily Dose to see the other kitties!

Now, the Auction to help the Winnie's Wishers! I've had a suggestion from The Critters in the Cottage mom and I think I'm going to do it!
She suggested that I bundle the books because there are SO many! Wonderful awesome books! But they may be making it hard to scroll through to see everything. So, in the next day or so, I will be pulling down the books and changing them to sets. And I'll be doing that to some of the art prints as well.
What does this mean to you? Well, if there is a single book or print that you're interested in, let me know now and I won't bundle it! Unless you want it bundled with something in particular? But you MUST let me know by tomorrow, ok?
By this weekend, I'll have the bundles up! And perhaps some other new items, fun for kitties!

Mancat Monday & World Cat Day

Leo hardly ever goes up on the top most shelf on the cat tree. That's Glitter's favorite spot. And I've only seen him on the top of the cabinet maybe once or twice.

I don't know what drew him up there the other day, but he had a whole lot of sniffin' goin' on!
I almost completely missed him up on the cabinet. By the time the camera was ready to shoot, he was on his way sniffing back down.

Leo: *sniff sniff sniffle* hmm, something has caught my attention here. I wonder what it is?

*sliirrrp* Have to clear my nosticals to continue my sniff inspection..

*sniff sniff snifferino* I seem to be on the trail of something..

Doggone if it doesn't continue! Hey, this better not end up in my Leo Lounge! *sniffity sniff*

Don't know what it was still. He jumped down after this and has not sniffed any more, and neither have the girls. Do you think he did it just to make me wonder??

Treat Boy!!

Ok, if you've read our blog for a while, you probably know that Leo does not like treats! It's hard enough to get him to eat much of his nightly snack of stinky goodness. He eats crunchy food, no problem. Which makes me wonder why he doesn't like crunchy treats? He looks at us with disdain if we try to offer him people foods.

The epitome of finicky cat!

We don't even offer him treats any more because we know what his response will be. He'll look at us like "What the H. E. Double hockey sticks is wrong with you?" Then he'll turn his tail up and walk away, all affronted.

Of course, if I'm opening treats for the girls and filling their treat balls (of which we have many) then he comes over, nose twitching like "Hey, whatcha got?" But one sniff, and.. see the above paragraph.

So the other day I opened up some Party Mix treats and he couldn't get close enough to have his usual sniff because of the clamoring girls. I gave Greg a few and asked him to show them to Leo then give them to the girls while I was filling a couple of treat balls. Giving a few to the girls early keeps my fingers intact and allows me to fill without bouncing treats off of persistent noses..

Greg took the treats, on the sly so the girls wouldn't follow, and showed them to Leo. AND HE ATE A FEW!!

Knock me over with a feather! Seriously!

Ok, had to think about it. We haven't had Party Mix in a long time, sticking mostly to Temptations and their huge variety of flavors (minus anything with fish. Because of Leo. Who doesn't even eat them. Are we weird/paranoid or what?)  So maybe he does like treats, just not temptations?

Cut to this morning. The kitties never got their 'after the humans eat' snack because the humans didn't eat.. the humans haven't been feeling well and decided to sleep instead of eat or anything else. So I decided they should at least get a little treat to make up for it. I mean, they don't get a snacky every single day, just about 98% of the time!

I decided I wanted photographic evidence of Leo eating treats! So I filled the girls treat balls first, put those down to keep them occupied (Leo has never used a treat ball, didn't want to confuse him when he's just starting to like treats, so he didn't get a treat ball) Then Greg put a small handful down on some ads so Leo could have a nibble in peace away from the vacuum cleaner girls.

We forgot about one thing though.. Cashmere. She MUST inspect everything anyone else gets in case it's different than what she has. Or in case it's easier to eat than what she has. For instance, She prefers her stinky goodness piled up, but once she smooches it down, she trades bowls with someone else in case theirs is still piled up. Another for instance, She lets Glitter bat around the treat balls and noses in to get the treats that fall out, trying to get as many as she can before Glitter makes her whap her own. Glitter, on the other hand, is a soft, gentle, lady when it coms to treats or snacks. She carefully turns over treat balls, not really smacking them, just encouraging them "Please won't you give me some of your lovely inners? Thank you darlin'." You want to trade snack bowls with her? Ok, that's fine, she doesn't mind in the least.

Anyway! Pictures from this morning! Well, I tried.. Cashmere heard Leo crunch or something and ran over to see what he had, and it was easier to get than using the treat balls!

Greg brought her treat ball over to her, to try to distract her, but she'd already distracted Leo from his little pile of treats.

Cashmere: Yes, I see the ball thingie. I know there are treats in there. But why should I use the treat trap when those treats are siting right out in the open?
Leo: Treat trap? What kind of a horrible device is that?

Almost immediately, Glitter left her treat ball and rushed over to see what Leo and Cashmere were doing..
Glitter: Oh hey! There's your treat ball, Cashy, don't you want it?
Cashmere: Not really, unless you knock some out for me. Leo's are sitting right out in the open!
Leo: I had one.. *thurrrp*

In case you can't tell, he is licking his lips in that picture. (squeee, kitty tongue!)  Here's a close up:
Leo: *thurrp*

And THEN! Leo came over to see Glitter's treat ball! Which was almost under where I was so I aimed and shot and wound up with several pictures of Leo sans head and then this one, completely dark with only a partial head. I lightened it as much as I could..
Leo: Hmm, I don't know why your treats are hidden. I may have to work at this to see why they are so hard to get to..

When I retrieved the empty treat ball later, it was almost fully opened up flat.. do you think it's a coincidence that it was Leo's first time with it??
I'm gonna take the weekend to think about that.. Hope your weekend is full of treats and new interesting things!
(And I hope you can recover from how long winded I was today and knowing the intricate details of treat/snack at our house! lol)

ThrowBack Thursday with Leo's Cave

Today's ThrowBack is from August 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th, 2012. I know I know, what am I thinking, posting four all together?? I was only going to post the last one and give links to the first ones, but when I was looking at them for the links, I thought they were so cute and funny that I decided to include them all! So, sorry this is so long! But I hope you'll agree that it's awfully cute!
These were called Tree Learnin', Cave Attempt, Cave Attempt 2 and Leo Caved!

Tree Learnin'

We've had the kitty tree for a while now. And while Leo loves it and Star likes it, no one has really used the whole thing. Meaning, no one goes inside the bottom thingie. The hole thingie at the bottom seems like such a fascinating thing with so many options for fun and napping opportunities!

They both love the very top and will nap there or use it for bird TV watching. It took a while, but Leo started using the second shelf a little bit, not a lot, but a little. As shown in our new gif:

It's a good spot for waitin' for bugs to show up on the screen..

He did go in it once on his own, but he turned around and got out immediately, before I could even catch him on camera.
I'm outta here!

So Greg and I set out to change this situation. I'm going to take the next few days to show off out attempts at getting Leo to realize the fun of the bottom tube!

Cave Attempt

Let me continue from yesterday where we were trying to get Leo to get in the bottom cave of the cat tree. But first I want to acknowledge some of your suggestions.

Tree dwellers verses ground dwellers: Leo is for sure a tree dweller, a birder for sure. Star is somewhat of a tree dweller, but also a ground dweller, a mouser. Star never used to play with Da Bird unless you were willing to drag it along the floor, but now she will chase it a little if it's close to the ground and might make a jump or two, but mostly, still the ground. Leo, when Star's not around to make him nervous, will jump his heart out after high flying Da Birds. Star does like the back of the couch or chair, but as you may have noticed, her favorite spot is the bean bag on the floor. Perhaps I should have tried to get her interested in the cave rather than Leo.. A thought for next week!

Cat nip or catnip sprinkled blankies in the cave: Leo is not crazy about catnip. He ignores the stuff spread on paper, which is Star's favorite way to eat it. He doesn't care if there's nip in his toys, in fact, he's more likely to play with things without nip. Star's favorite butterfly toy is one of those with the 'zoom around the room' catnip and she will lick it and rub it all over her face for a long long time. I have been wanting to try valerian root and silvervine to see if they had any effect on Leo, but I haven't gotten around to getting any yet, bad mommy..

Flipping it upside down: MOL, I have never thought of that, but since the top perch is off center, I have a feeling it would fall over. And that he'd be the one to knock it over by jumping onto the new top which was the bottom... ok, now I'm confusing myself..

So what we did do was drop a springy wormey toy down the top hole while he watched. He plays with these even though they have nip in the head because he likes the springy body and can carry them easily. They're not a feather toy, but they are one he plays with and they were handy, so that's why we used those. Here's what happened:
Why you bein' mean to my toys? They don't like hiding from me!

That's right, ol' long leg boy can reach to the bottom without ever entering the cave.. He hooks a claw in the toy and yanks it back up from the top hole.. *sigh*

Ok, that didn't work. Probably because he was on the top top when we dropped it, making sure he'd see it, and he went after it from the hole it was dropped in. Time to change tactics!

I put Da Bird down the hole and waited for him to walk by. When he did, I wiggled it on the bottom of the cave. Oh boy did that catch his interest! He sat right down to watch the dancing Bird!

Hey birdie, what you doin' in there? That your new nest?

But that's as far as it went. He reached in a little to try to whap at it, but mostly he just watched.... And waited for it to fly out the top! *double sigh*
You got to come out sometime, birdie.. and I'll be waitin' with toof and claw!

Tune in tomorrow for another tactic!

Cave Attempt 2

Continuing to try to get Leo INTO the cave on his cat tree.. He loves Da Bird, so we kept using it to tempt him inside. How hard does it have to be to convince a kitty to do something that's supposed to be fun for him??

We got him playing...
I see you Birdie, 'n I'm gonna get  ya!

Grab! I know I missed the birdie.. I'm grabbin' the hole!

Now I bite you birdie! Now that you's all unsuspectin'!

We tried this from another angle, getting him on top looking down into the cave..
Didn't I already show you that I could get ya from the top?

Oh yeah..
Birdie tryin' ta tickle me. I give him the ears of annoyance!

I'm gonna grab ya now! Go higher, I dare ya!

Then a quick drop into the hole! Unexpected results..
Oh lookie! I CAN get in there!

Not exactly how I had imagined..
I will eat you birdie! You can't get out past me again now!

Ok, we'll try again Monday, we gotta get that boy inside the right way!

Leo Caved!

Continuing the story of trying to get Leo into the cave bottom of the cat tree... First let me say this: Frustration, thy name is cat!

No no, you goofy boy! That's back on the top! And you're being a lazy player too!
Bring it closer...

Is this close enough? It's right on top of you!
Meh, I's takin' a break now..

Oh! Almost! Um... get yer rump inside too!
Why? I can reach the birdie from here.

There you go! YAY!!
Hang on... gotta get turned around..

Ok, I all in, now I's gonna get the birdie good now!

Uh.. that is, if YOU can get it back in the hole...

And now a gif of him inside the cave!
I guess it ain't so bad in here.. maybe.

Whew! finally!

King Spitty is a prognosticator I think! Because even after all this work, getting Leo to see that the cave can be fun, he has not once gone back in after this session! Which, if you read his comment on the last post, Spitty dear suggested is what Leo should do! Thank you so much Sire Ornery! MOL

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Be sure you check on the auction over the weekend, I'll be adding more, hopefully today, but if not, then for sure tomorrow! I told myself I was going to add earlier this week.. but you see how that worked out! Oh well.. But there's still lots of awesome stuff to bid on!
