Goodbye Sir Moose-A-Lot

On Wednesday we had to say goodbye to my mom's cat, Sir Moose-a-lot Goodyear Roadkill Thunderbottom.

If you'll recall, a little over a month ago I had asked for purrs because Moosey was going in for surgery. He had a broken tooth with his gum grown over it. He did very well despite his age and he started to eat well and he gained some of his weight back. We thought everything was good to go for him. We were very thankful he was doing better, which I wrote about after the surgery.

But in the last few weeks, he was going down hill again. Finally yesterday we got him to the vet. What they took off, thinking it was overgrown gums, had grown back. (we had opted not to have it tested) It was a tumor. And worse, it spread to a place it had room to grow, in his chest cavity. This caused fluid to build up around his lungs making it hard for him to breath and eat.

With heavy hearts we chose to release him from the pain he was so obviously in. He will be missed terribly.

Those of you who've been reading here a long time may remember when we lost my dad. Moose was his favorite person in the world. He was my dad's and my dad was his. Of course he loved my mom, but my dad was tops. My dad couldn't go to bed without calling Moose to go with him and Moose wouldn't allow him to go without him.

I like to think that when Moose made his run for the Rainbow Bridge, my dad was there waiting for him. Together again, time for a good long nap together.

My mom is heartbroken, as are we. Sir Moose was a part of this family for a long time and he will be missed greatly.

  1. Aw, we remember Sir Moose-a-Lot--he was the very definition of a Good Boy. It's nice to think of your dad and Moosey snoozing away just across the Bridge in the comfiest chair ever, reminiscing about the Good Old Days, and looking forward to a nice dinner. Spitty and I send you and your Mom comforting purrs and hugs. XOXO Spitty & the Human
