With a heavy heart I have to report that Star has left us. She had been losing weight though she ate with gusto until last night. Early this morning she went to the emergency vet and they found her to be in kidney failure with no hope of recovery. She wouldn't even respond to Greg petting her and she loved her daddy dearly.
My biggest regret, aside from losing her at all, is that I was not home for her in her final days. Greg was with her though, and I am very grateful for that. We are both terribly upset about this sudden departure. We knew she was getting up there in age, but were no where near ready for this.

Andrea, please don't beat yourself up for not being there for Star's last few days. I did the same thing when I recently had to let Leo go. I felt crappy knowing I wasn't home for the last two weeks of his life. Then a friend told me that Leo saw and felt all the love I gave him all around him even if I wasn't there physically in those last two weeks of his life. I wanted to share those word with you because they helped me a lot. Star was surrounded by your love for her every day and she knew how much you loved her. You didn't need to be there physically for her to feel that love...it was all around her, she was surrounded by your love for her and she joyfully took it with her.

Dropping in to say the Human and I continue to think of you, and of your beautiful Star. One of my favorite memories was the night I appeared at her doorstep in my special HazMat suit, MOL! She really told me off for that ;-) But I did manage to worm my way back into her good graces, right?
ReplyDeleteI also loved how comforting she was to me the night I gotted "tutored". This was her message: "Star: Spitty, Darling Spitty! I'm so very sorry you were trapped, transported, and treated so.. so.. terribly! Oh but you didn't go down without a fight! I've never been more proud to be one of your ladycats! I am so so so glad though, that you will now live longer and healthier! Oh my gosh, I was not a kitten when I had my um... lady version of your surgery.. And I am so so much happier now! Seriously!
Now, you go ahead and snooze UTB and I'll be over with a strong bottle of nip brandy and a bucket of ice! The ice isn't for the nip brandy by the way.. I'll snuggle with you until you feel better! My poor darling..."
And that ice is what got me through it, too!
I really loved Star and I know she'll be waiting for me when my turn comes to cross the bridge. XOXOXO
P.S. I know Leo and his Sisters will be there to comfort you and give you their best purrs.
