Update On Star

Star went to the vet Saturday. And it was not bad at all. The fur had already started to grow back, but she's still licking it a bit. She got a shot for allergies. And they told us to get coconut oil for the spot. Never heard of it, aside from the stuff in hand lotion. Apparently it's like cooking oil, and it's hard as a rock! Luckily it melts easily and her body heat alone melted it enough to be able to rub it in. We're also supposed to see if she'll eat any of it.

No way was she doing that today though.. Because aside from going to the vet, we trimmed her claws, forced a pill down her throat, and rubbed that stuff on her back. She is NOT happy with us.

Oh dear, I just had a thought.. She's been sleeping on that basket of clean folded sheets that I showed Leo on a few days ago.. (I know, it should be put away by now, right?) And she has oil on her back.. I think I see rewashing sheets in my future. Oh well, as long as she gets better, right?

Leo got his claws trimmed too, which is probably why we had a hard time finding Star to do hers. She's no fool, she can tell when something unpleasant is going on!

Thank you all for your good wishes and purrs and prayers! She's doing well and her fur should be growing back now!

This has been a horrible day, sheesh..

It's over now, Star baby, no more vet, no more shots, no more pills, and no more clawing the mommy.

  4. We're glad she's doing better.

Our human used to eat coconut oil for a while, as supposedly it's so healthy. After a few months she gave it us, as she didn't notice any difference in how she felt. BTW, she mixed it with a bit of honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon to make it palatable for her. NOT suggesting that for cats, though.

  6. Hooray, you feel better Star !
I'm so happy for you but purrs more to hit 100% yourself
And Coconut oil, for me it's good ! My mom & dad love all thing from nature . Like when I got bitten. Mom always use warm salt water to clean, and following with honey for cure.
    You will be O.K.

  10. Glad things went ok. I use coconut oil for cooking a lot... It's supposed to be very good for you (better than other oils and butter) and I love it's taste and smell...

  13. i'm actually a little stunned a vet suggested coconut oil.. I love the stuff and use it all the time. I've started washing my face with it and no longer have a need for a separate cleanser, moisturizer and exfoliator. :)

it becomes liquid over 72 degrees and hardens back up when it comes in contact with cold. You could easily mix it into room temp cat food

  17. I have a few old towels about that I can cover a stack of clean laundry or sheets so that the cats can sit on them without messing them up

  19. We're a little behind and just read about Star's ouchie today. A couple of our past cats used to do this as well. We had to get them allergy shots every couple of months. We can't believe Star could even reach that spot to lick. Kitties are devious and persistent. 20. Poor Star!

Coconut oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits. I wouldn't have thought of it for kitties though.

  22. Darling Star, I think *You* will be the one who decides when it's time for "no more clawing the mommy"--right?

Mmmmm, coconut! It smells divine, though I can't say I have ever tasted it. Have you licked any up yet? (If you lick it off, though, it won't be so easy to spread around to punish the Mommy for dragging you off to you-know-where).

I'll be over just after dark to check it all out. XOXOXO

  23. Hrm... coconut oil you say? Sheets you say? After the vet you say? Sounds like Star has her payback well in paw!

Seriously we're glad the vet was able to care for her and that it's on the way back to healing. We hear coconut oil is very good for you.
