Throwback Thursday

I found this great picture of Leo and his sisters before they were mine! This is from before I got Leo, before the girls were adopted into what turned out to be a bad situation, when they all still lived in the cathouse. It includes another of the sisters, Spritz. There were six in Leo's litter. I now have half of them and the other three are in great homes!

When Chrystal posted this, she said that there were several other bowls around the cathouse..

In case you need a score card on the players here, it goes from left to right: Glitter, Spritz, Cashmere and Leo.

It took Leo a little while to realize that there was no way on God's green earth that Star was going to share her snack bowl with him! Maybe a day or two and he knew he had his very own bowl several feet from hers. (Greg finally put Star's bowl away about a month ago, he couldn't bring himself to remove it until then)

The girls have taken longer to realize that everyone gets their own. They do not mind sharing with each other because they've always done it. Our snack bowls are small individual cat sized but they still will try to stick both of their heads into the same one occasionally. They would try to share with Leo, who is a polite boy and would just back away and let them have his bowl if they wanted it. Then he would sit and watch them eat it, not taking their unused bowl! Trained by Star?

Mostly now they all start at their own bowl, but the girls must inspect all the other bowls when they are nearly done. Leo is not a snack fiend, so he always leaves a lot, sometimes only taking a few bites, so the girls help empty his bowl. They inspect each other's bowls too, and then most times go back to their own.

Glitter will often try to bury her bowl, and Leo's, when she's done. Cashmere is usually the last one on bowl inspection duty. By morning, they are nearly always empty, even if they had left a lot by the time the humans have gone to bed.

I find their habits interesting. Hope I didn't bore you! Do your cats have snacking rituals?

Please don't forget the auction for the new Winnie's Wish cat room coming up on the 16th! If you have any items to donate, now's the time! You just need to send a picture, brief description and starting bid to Marg (margaretmsan AT gmail) and let her know who's paying shipping, you or the winning bidder!
And then when the auction starts, see if there's something you want to bid on! It's gonna be fun!
Thank you!!

PS. Can't wait? Drop by the gofundme with some green papers! Every dollar helps!

My cats have a ritual also: they are expecting me every day behind door and when I arrive from work, I need to put food in their bowls.

We are not allowed to eat out of each other's bowls - my human wants to make sure every kitty gets the right amount of food, and she is very strict about that. Treats are served by hand, except when I get cantaloupe - that gets served in a bowl.

We each have our own bowls when being fed wet food, otherwise, a certain someone that we will name, Levon! , would eat efurryone's food! We get treats by hand for the same reason :) but we do have free feeding bowls with dry food out all day that anyone can nibble from.

They look cute, all heads in together. When Eric was here we both had our own bowls, but we would mostly eat together out of one then go on to the second bowl.

We love the picture of all their heads being in the same bowl.

Gus was, and Anna is a food burger. Oddly her poop doesn't get covered because she digs a foot or more away!

We each have or own bowls, and we start out eating separately. But mom bean has to watch us because one little piggie (Saku) likes stinky goodness a lot and steals from our bowls (Sasha & Sami) when he can. Then he throws it all up!!!

But when it is just kibble, we can eats from any of the bowls whenever we like. When mom gives us treats she gives each of us the same amount, but Sasha usually shares his with us (Sami & Saku) because he really doesn't eat many treats.

Nellie is a pig! Not only does she scatter kibble and wet food everywhere, I have never had a cat who eats as much and as often as she does, yet she does not gain any weight!

What a precious photo! Out of practicality we feed out on LARGE platters, but no-kitty ever shares!

Beautiful cats and it is wonderful to see how they share!
