Star's Vet Tortu... uh Visit

Star's vet appointment went pretty well. Not that she was very thrilled about it... In fact, when a rather large Irish Setter came out of the exam room and licked Star's mommy on the arm I think she might have completely flipped out. She crawled so far back into her carrier that she almost melded into the plastic!

What the *bleep* is doing all that scratching behind that door!?!?

Star goes from roaring growling Princess Hissyface to meek tiny little Princess Jellyknees. She won't stand up, she stays crouched down low to the table and nothing, I mean nothing will make her lift her belly from the surface. Try to lift her up and her feet stay tucked up like a turtles, she comes off the table instead of rising to her feet.

She's not passive though, not my feisty girl. Try to turn her over to see her belly and it takes two people! She will not roll over for anyone! She does, however, try to tuck herself into her daddy's arms!

So the vet gave her a thorough going over and while he suspected that fleas intensified her seasonal rash, he couldn't find any fleas or debris on her. Which means we probably eradicated the fleas with the bath, but the damage had already been done.

She got a shot of depo-medrol and a course of antibiotics. Star is very easy to pill, we just have to put it in gooseliver/braunschwiger and she'll eat anything! The only issue was that he only had pills for larger kitties and doggies. Star is a little girl and he'd have preferred to give her liquid but we can't do that.

Star will run from us if we try to force liquid meds down her throat every day for two weeks! So what we wound up with is capsules. I'm not sure she will eat capsules embedded in gooseliver or not, so I'm going to open them, mix the powder in a little bit of the gooseliver then wrap another layer of non-medicated gooseliver around that. Hopefully she'll scarf it down before she discovers the funny tasting stuff in the middle!

As of right now, she's curled up next to her daddy, happy as a clam, and already seems much better. That shot must act fast! We so very much appreciate the purrs!

Oh, and just in case we've missed a flea, which, as I said, they couldn't find evidence of, we got some advantage, for use after she heals up a little more. (No flipping out again Spitty, she's still certified flea free!)

Resting easy.

See her paw up on the back of the couch? She sleeps like this a lot.. her claw hooked into something out in front of her. It's weird, huh?

Oh my poor beleaguered darling! I am finishing up my baff to be all shiny and fresh for you, and then I will be teleporting right over. I had **no idea** of the suffering you were enduring today! I'm sorry to be soooo late visiting but my Human is completely unreliable--sigh. I will be there in a few minutes--make sure there's a space right next to you for me XOXOXOX

Hope Star is feeling better soon. If she's taking metranidazole, I know that tastes horribly bitter, so it might be a tough sell, even in gooseliver. I hope it isn't a battle - that can make everyone's life unpleasant for a week.
One of my cats used to hook his front dewclaw into things and suspend his paw kind-of like Star does. It was very strange, but cute.

I totally feel Star's pain - I turn into a trembling little ball until the ordeal is done with.

We always try and look very small when we go to the vets hoping they won't notice us - you were very brave Star unlike us the "wimps"!

Poor baby. But I'm so glad she's home and feeling much better after the shot. Just curious, why the need for antibiotics?

The Depo is incredibly fast, isn't it? The Baby was better within an hour after her shot. Poor Princess Jellyknees, I laughed at her Hovercat imitation, feet tucked under above the table.

Hope you are feeling 100% soon. We don't think the way you sleep is too weird. You look good and comfy.

We're glad you showed the vet what for, Star. It's not good for them to get to complacent and think they can just poke or prod cats. You showed them!!

A delicious-smelling package arrived in the mail today from the FUNdraiser. As soon as Pierre tears it open, we'll be showing everybody what's inside. Pawhugs for the great idea. We can't wait to see what's in there. Hurry up, Pierre!

Hey, Star...we hope that shot helps you. That's the type of shot I get when my allergies get real bad.
