Change in Cattitude!

I don't know what is wrong with my brain.. I can only claim that when I wrote yesterday's post it was still Tuesday. So I totally forgot to mention that Wednesday was a very special day here! Maybe not so much to the kitties... but for Greg and me, it was!

It was out 25th Anniversary! (oh does that make me sound old... but I was VERY young when we married! lol) Happy Silver Greg! Love you so much!!

Ok, now on to why you're here.. Kitties!

Since the dreaded bath day, there has been a change in attitude around here. I don't know if it's this thing we heard at a conference once... that what makes people closer is shared adversity. (he was talking about the reason you take your family camping, not because it's fun, but because it's you all against all the horrors of camping, shared adversity!)

Leo watched Star get her awful bath, she heard him getting his, they saw each other afterwards, they know they were both in the same boat. But seriously, there has been one hissy incidence since! AND they've been sharing the bed!

We've kind of almost giving up on the every other night thing. Star has started to become afraid of Greg, and he can't handle that. She's his baby, we can't have her run every time he moves in her direction because she thinks he's going to carry her upstairs. (she HATES being carried) So before that bath day, we'd been letting them decide who's up and who's down. If Star was up on her own, we closed her in. If Leo was up and Star wasn't around, we'd close him in. If no one was around, we'd leave it open. Leo got more nights upstairs, but Star got comfortable again without thinking someone was going to pick her up, so it was a trade off.

Then the bath. We left both of them up because both were in our room lick lick licking forever and ever and they were not overly concerned with each other. Cool!

So then Star started this thing where she HAS to be on me... Constantly! Especially at night! It's Barnacle Star! She'll be sitting on me, and I'll have to move, she immediately gives me the ears of annoyance. If I set her aside so I can move, she will grumble and run right back to where she was and hunker down as if daring me to try that again!

At night it's worse... She sits and stares at me, waiting for me to get in. I always get in on my side first, then turn on my stomach after a while. when I get in, she's on my hip almost before I can fully settle in. It used to be that when I went to turn, she'd get down and leave. Sometimes she'd come back and lay on my back for a while, never for very long. But now.. she won't get off my hip so I can turn! She balances herself as I turn slowly so she can stay on top. If this results in scratches on my hip, bum or back, well so be it, she's not moving!

Two nights ago I couldn't take it, I was having a bad knee day and did not want to turn with a cat on my hip, so instead, I sat up and made her get down. Ooo was she not happy! She huffed off, looked at Greg sleeping on his side... and got on HIS hip! She did this once, years ago and he let her know that he did not like that, and she never tried again. Until, like I said, two days ago.

Aren't you getting back in yet?

I'll look at you when you get back in, until then, you can stuff that camera phone where the sun don't shine..

Of course, this lasted exactly until I got back in.. I hurried up and turned over so she didn't have to ride the hip around again.. And I didn't acquire any new scratches. Have I mentioned that we need a nail clipping party at all recently?

Oh, then last night, Greg was tired and was asleep by the time I came into the room. And there she was.... sitting on his hip waiting for me! Clingy girl! She won't be apart from us, especially at night! So much so that she doesn't care if Leo's there or not! He sleeps by daddy's feet, as far from Star the hip sitter as possible, but still on the bed. No fights, none! It's awesome!

Leo's been sticking close as well. If he's not being my Leo scarf, he's between my feet or next to me pressing up against me. And not just me. He's starting to lean on daddy more than just at night! It was chilly the other day and Greg got out a blankey (it HAS to be cold for that). Well, Leo loves blankies, so he snuggled up to it and daddy's feet.
What? it's warm.. And I like daddy's feet...

I took several pictures of this.. but they were all identical, he wouldn't even look at me! Greg moved to look down at him and he ran. Greg settled back in, and Leo jumped back into that spot, exactly like this and stayed!

We've got a serious case of Klingy Kitties around here! Not that I'm complaining really, I loves my babies!

I know what you're expecting here at the bottom of the post.. another plug for the FUN FUN FUNdraiser... Well here it is! 5 great toys for a minimum donation of $15 to Winnie's Wish! And we'll send anywhere in the world! Outside the USA, please email for postage costs! Thank you!!

Awwww, what a sweet story!

Spitty says: Star, once in a great while, I get on the Human's bed--I sit near her so she *thinks* I might possibly be going to settle in (as if! after eight freaking years I'll just suddenly become a cuddle bunny!) and then in one fell swoop I LEAP right over her onto the floor. It's a wonderful game! I loves it a lot. XOXOXO

Happy anniversary! My human and her boyfriend have been together 18 years and they have not even gotten around to getting married yet! (Blame my human, she's the commitment-phobe.)

I think you may be onto something regarding the shared adversity...

Happy anniversary! 25 years is fantastic.

It's great that Star and Leo are sharing the bed peacefully. Shared adversity seems to be the trick. (But you still aren't going to catch anyone around here going camping,or taking baths willingly.)

Happy Anniversary!
I've actually used the "bath routine" to get hissy cats to behave.
When Cosmo first came home after a short stay at the vets, Ling would hiss and snarl at him. I tried for days to get them to be nice and nothing. Then I decided to give them both showers. And that did it. No more hissy nonsense.
The next time Cosmo returned from the vet after another short stay, I didn't hesitate to shower them and the hissy nonsense didn't go past the first few hours after Cosmo got home.
Hopefully Star and Leo will get along better after this. :)

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. And Leo and Star...PLEASE continue sharing space! I bet shared adversity really does have something to do with it. I say Star will forgive her daddy before much longer and allow herself to be picked up.

I think they are both trying to stake their turf out on you two.

A very happy anniversary that is a great milestone. Abby is a klingy kitty too at night. She has slept on top of my chest and surprisingly this isn't too bad. Now she sleeps between my legs ... and sometimes my legs need to move and I have to play shift the kitty. She stays there all night.

It is amazing how they are all so different in personalities. Mahoney sticks to me all day but at night, she will not come in the bedroom. Cats are amazing and this is what makes them so wonderful. You just never know.
Take care.

Happy anniversay! Maybe the cats are not clingy so much as making sure they always have one eye on you to make sure you are not heading toward the bathtub!
