Something New

Bring something new into the house and the kitties have to inspect. My uncle gave us a chair yesterday and Leo met it at the door. I didn't get any pictures of that, darn it, but he was on it before the back was in the house. (Lazyboy, the back comes off for moving)

Star showed up later and her inspection was shorter. She immediately took to the new chair and seemed to want to lay claim to it.

"Lay" claim, yeah, I get it. You're still not funny though.

Yes, I think this will be mine now. It's my new grooming spot.

This... did not end well.. The chair is a rocker recliner. When Leo jumped up on the back, it rocked, freaking both of them out and severely ticking Star off!
Star: You heard me claim this. Just what do you think you're doing? Putting your giant barbarian paws on MY property! How dare you?
Leo: Chill out, Princess HissyFace.. You can have the seat, I just want my part of the chair.
Star: Your part of the chair? You don't have a part of the chair! All parts of the chair are MY part of the chair!

(Andrea: That's a nod to the movie Chicken Run, couldn't help it!)

I talked soft to them, trying to calm the situation, and they remained in their respective spots for a good ten minutes. Leo kept his eye on Star, Star kept her eye on Leo. Star stopped watching first, but you could tell by her ears that she knew he was still there.

And then, and I have no idea if this was calculated or just... what, but it looked surprisingly similar to a teenage boy faking a yawn to put his arm around a girl. Only it was the girl and she faked the yawn to smack the boy.. Star sort of half sat up, then yawned big, arching her back up the back of the chair, turning her head upside down to look at Leo. That move put her within smacky paw range of him, so she smacky pawed him!

Leo took it, like he always does, and ran as soon as he could. It was close enough to dinner time that he didn't go that far, just to the top of the tree. And Star stayed on the chair, queen of all she chooses. Little brat..

Another thing I didn't get a picture of.. Leo stood on the floor behind the chair and put his paws on the top of the back of the chair. Every time I think I know how tall/long he is, he does something like that to show me that he's a bigger boy than I thought!

If you can help find homes, please do! If you can take in a kitty or two, please do! And check the top of her sidebar to buy her book, it's well worth it and also makes a great gift!

no thanks to the rocking part. Ivy says thanks for the comment and yeah, those brother catboys are certainly pesky. :)

ahhhh...the ever present Lazy Boy rocker recliner chair...my before me sister, Tasha, a tortie of course, used to wait until everything was quiet in the family room, the other two cats, boys, were napping in laps, Mom and Dad were focused on TV...then Tasha would jump from the top of the cat tower, behind the chair. onto the top of the chair, thus her weight making the chair explode open into reclining and rocking...and Tasha would jump off and stroll away. Everyone else was shocked, freaked out and dumbfounded...paw pats, Savannah

If that Lazy Boy wound up at my house, there would be smacky paws over it here too.

We're sure we'd have smacky paws over a Lazyboy chair.

NO PART of that chair is yours, Leo. Accept it and life will be easier, Man.

Our mom is afraid of any chair that rocks around us, though the Cousins have an IKEA chair that kind of bobs up and down. That one looks much more comfy! Maybe you can make up a time-sharing schedule for the comfy chair.
