Darn it update

Not much better here. Worse maybe. I've never had back pain like this. I've been in the ER twice and then to see the doctor. The vicodin and felxoril did nothing really. And I swear they are placebos! So on the second trip to the ER they gave me perkaset and Valium. I didn't know Valium was also a muscle relaxer. They help some, but boy they make me weird. Like, did you know staring at the wall is endlessly fascinating?

Leo has tried to help in his way... he likes to jump on the bed by landing smack in the middle of my back and then jumping off. Scares me awake in normal circumstances, but with this back issue, it's made me scream. Let me tell you, no one appreciates that in the dead of night!

So last night, I think he kind of sort of tried to be more careful.. He jumped up next to me, not on me, and carefully, slowly walked across my back. Yeah, it still hurt but not as bad as being jumped on by a giant kitty! So good kitty Leo. I wonder if he'll continue that after I get better?

Speaking of getting better, I have an MRI on Tuesday, looking for, I guess compressed disks or something. By the time they got around to discussing all that I was on morphine and some kind of weird shot that made the walls move while I was in the ER... I should ask Greg what they said probably..

Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling and not making any sense so I'm gonna toss in a few old pictures. mostly because I haven't really gotten any new ones..

Star: This is my concerned face. Who's going to give me treats if you don't get better?

Leo: I'll figure out what's wrong with mommy! As soon as I figure out which side is up on this book..

By the way, please dont forget to head over to daily dose, she could use help homing some kitties and her book would be a great read, and a great gift!

Ouch! I hope the humans vets can do something to help - it is not fun being in a permanently altered state of consciousness, and it is probably not making you a very good kitty assistant either!

Yikes! Continued purrs and purrayers. Our human's boss takes Percocet occasionally for migraines. Apparently it's quite effective, at least for him.

Oh, eeek! My mom herniated a disk in her back just about two years ago and it took two trips to her (clueless) GP and a month of weekly physical therapy (which made things worse) before she got referred to an orthopedist. She got an MRI right away, he diagnosed it right, and he recommended an epidural block. That helped immensely. Before that, there were days when she could not get dressed and days when walking four or five steps left her in complete agony. If you have that option, take it. It may make your hands sweat now, but it does help a whole lot! In the meantime, just do whatever you need to do alleviate the pain (my mom used ice packs, ibuprofen and hydrocodone, and found lying down the least awful).

ouch - just ouch.

Leo - rather than jump on, you need to lay gently and act like a heating pad....

it makes me smile that you have kept your sense of humor through all this.

I've been trying to get my cats to walk all over my back (like those Japanese massages) for years. Maybe now I'll be really glad they never did that one day.

I hope you feel better right quick!

I feel your pain. I pretty seriously hurt my back a year and half ago. I went thru all of the MRIs, epidural blocks and surgery. If you need any "been there, done that" advice, please feel free to contact me.

The Human is real sorry your Human is damaged and hopes she feels better really soon!

Me, I am desperately worried about you kitties! Are you being properly cared for? Has the service at your house gone downhill? Don't you think your Mommy should hire a Nanny for you until she is able to wait on you herself again?

Hmmm, we would like to offer Leo and Star lessons in dealing with Beins. Like, jumping on the bed is OK, but not on the Bein; when Beins hurt, know where NOT ta walk, etc.

Just teleport over fer a day an see how we do things...

We're so sorry to hear you are in so much pain - we're sure that back jumping is best avoided at all costs. Here's hoping the doctors will give you some serious pain relief as being tired through not sleeping will only make you feel worse.
Take care.

So many of us have been through this back-pain ordeal . . . . We all find our own way through it. May you find a way that works for you. For me, it was Feldenkrais and breathing techniques. And lots of time, and lying down -- and changing a lot of things in my life . . . . Hoping for the best for you, Andrea. Take care!
